One wedding, two ceremonies, nine days.
Samira came to me with what looked like one job. Design an invitation, put up a small page where people could RSVP. Nine days later it was a print invitation, a four-page site, two RSVP routes and a plan for the photos, all built for guests who would open it on a phone in Freetown.
The useful thing was not in the brief. There were two weddings. A traditional ceremony on February 1st in Hamilton, and the white wedding on April 4th at Hotel Cabenda. Same couple, different rooms, different guest lists, ten weeks apart.
What shipped is one site that carries both without pretending they are the same event.
In short
Both weddings have happened. The RSVPs landed in a sheet Samira read herself, and the printed QR still resolves today.
The phone stayed quiet after handover, which was the whole point.
Two ceremonies never collided at the door
February in Hamilton and April at Hotel Cabenda got their own routes, their own invitations and their own questions. A guest invited to one never had to read past the other.
Samira could read the answers without me
The RSVP looks like the invitation, but behind it every field lands in a Google Sheet she already knew how to open. No backend, nobody to call.
The printed QR code still resolves
Domain bought first, code generated against it and tested, then the artwork closed. The one dependency where getting the order wrong costs a reprint instead of an afternoon.
The photos never became my problem
Guests upload to a shared album they already trust, not a custom gallery that could break at a party I was not attending.
Built for the person who runs it after I left
Every systems decision came out the same way: anything that looks like the wedding is mine, and the machinery under it is Google's, because that part has to keep working after I leave.
